December 2014

The North Peace Spinners and Weavers held a beginners' rug hooking workshop recently in Fort St. John.  Sue Davies of Lone Prairie BC was the instructor.  This course has been held twice in the last year and the second session included an afternoon course in finishing.

These first two pieces are made with nature dyed yarn and some commercial dyed yarn.  We are hoping to inspire the use of nature dyed yarn and hand spun yarn in rug hooking.  This is a good medium for using small amounts of yarn.

The North Peace Spinners and Weavers are holding their annual sale along with the Potters and Arts Council's Reuse Rejoice Christmas Decoration Sale on Saturday December 6 at Artspost 10320 94th Ave., Fort St. John from 10:00-4:00.  Come and see the scarves, handspun hats, warm and cozies(for sore muscles) sachets and other woven, handspun items along with Kathy Boyd's llama yarn and finished products. The coasters with handwoven bag and the handwoven shopping bag are two of the many door prizes.

The newsletter will be in the mail sometime in December.  A questionnaire regarding the future of Peace Country Spinners and Weavers is included in the newsletter.  You are encouraged to complete the questionnaire and send it back to help the committee make recommendations regarding future activities of our group. We are very fortunate to have such a fellowship of weavers and spinners, to pool our resources to hire instructors from away, to share our creativity with each other, providing inspiration for new comers and experienced alike.  We have developed friendships, become better acquainted with the Peace Country, and developed a sense of community.  Please voice your ideas and opinions to help make this organization even better.

These last items are just for inspiration.  The small bag is made from a sample warp left over from the HWSDA Basic Design and Weaving Course.  It is lined with cotton fabric with a zippered pocket and makes a nice bag for lunches or for carrying small knitting projects.

This fabric will be the flap of a purse.  I was given fabric samples from someone's living room makeover.  And from another friend I was given fabric that is suitable to finish the rest of the bag.  This is one of my winter projects.  Hopefully I have enough to make 4 purses.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and Happy Travelling and Happy New Year!  And Happy Spinning and Weaving!
