Mug & Woven Mug bag exchange

In the interests of promoting spinning and weaving, Marjo and I went to Artspost, our guild studio, to meet Adam Beach, the star of CBC's Arctic Air. (Everyone in the guild was invited; only the two of us showed up. Such dedication!)  He was in Fort St. John to mc a wellness workshop and he had some time in the morning and he chose to come to Artspost to talk to the spinners and weavers and the potters.  Marjo brought her cotton spinning and I worked on the fringes of a wool blanket. We had a lovely conversation with him.   He was interested in our work.  He talked about the possibilities of  a project to teach weaving, for the purposes of making blankets for sale, for special gifts.  He talked of the significance of giving blankets in his own culture.  He told us of his project of bringing movies to remote aboriginal communities, to inspire the young.  He said little about being an actor or about Arctic Air but he did say that the hats they want him to wear never fit and hurt his head.  So...

Spinning, weaving and other fibre arts that you may have seen while on your travels this summer is the theme of the August Threads Along the Peace blog.  Please submit pictures to 1358@telus.net with explanations and acknowledgment of the source.

The idea was born upon seeing this spinning wheel in the lobby of the Lakeside Country Inn, owned by Donn and Margaret Sherman, at Savona, BC, on the way to Kamloops. The wheel belonged to Donn's Grandmother. It came from Finland and was used to spin linen and dates back to the 1800's.  (A wonderful place to stay, right on the lake.) www.lakesidecountryinn.com
